Bone graft for Dental Implant

               Bone graft for Dental Implant

Implantation when the bone volume is insufficient
The loss of a tooth creates a progressive resorption of the jawbone.
When bone loss is important, conventional dental implantology cannot intervene and place a dental implant. The area is too narrow, the implant would not hold and could damage what is left of bone.
Today, implantologist can rebuild bone sites that are quite large and fairly tall. The oldest dentings, when the bone is almost no longer existing, are no longer insurmountable problems.

Intra-sinus bone graft or Sinus Lift
When implanting dental implants at the level of the upper molars, the implantologist regularly encounters bone volume that is too low. This comes from the presence of a cavity filled with air (maxillary sinus). In this case the placement of implants requires, in this area, to fill the bottom of the maxillary sinus through a bone graft (sinus lift).

Nature of bone graft
Most of the time, the bone graft is a bone substitute of animal or synthetic origin. This avoids having to take a bone sample. However, sometimes, a sample can be made in the jaw of the patient. The bone thus recovered is then used to perform the graft. We then speak of grafting appositions.

The sinus transplant technique (or sinus lift)
In order for the graft to be put in place, it is first necessary to access the inside of the sinus. Two main techniques are possible:

    ·         Lateral access

It allows for large volumes of grafts. Access is made to the outer wall of the maxillary sinus to obtain a wide visibility of the operating area.

   ·       Crestal access

Crestal access is reserved for grafts of reduced volume. The material is pushed into the bottom of the sinus by the wellbore of the future implant. Implants can be set up simultaneously with bone grafting.

Contraindications to sinus lifts
There are very few contraindications to sinus lifts. The patient will be followed: The state of his health in general and that of the sinus must be the object of a particular attention. In case of doubt, an ENT opinion will be requested.

Operative suites
The after-effects of sinus lifts are mostly simple and not painful. However, it is possible, as after any surgical procedure, that edema, slight bleeding and hematoma appear. It is obviously important to follow the prescription and advice of your implantologist.

  1. Dental implants have turned to be the most common cosmetic dental treatments in the modern scenario. It is a great procedure to have the missing teeth back and confidence to smile as well! My cousin lost two of her teeth in an accident but after getting the implants from dentist Torrance she looks attractive again.
